Established over 40 years ago, we have been serving West Leicestershire since 1969. As a testament to our founding families, many original members still actively engage with our club today, entrusting their next generation of swimmers into our care, supporting us as coaches or volunteers or simply assisting in the running of our club as committee members.
In the last 40+ years, the club has been able to develop hundreds of swimmers to compete and succeed at both national and international competitions with a current squad of over 120 young people. The club also acted as a stepping stone for many of our young people into regional and national performance squads through its skill and fitness based training regimes and coaching support to its individuals.
It is therefore no surprise that our Learn to Swim programme, established over 25 years ago has proven to become very popular within the local area and we enjoy contributing to our community by offering such a vital programme to support the fitness of young people.
Truly supportive of our members, Braunstone Swimming Club offer even more! Many of our young swimmers and their parents are developed into ASA accredited junior and senior swimming assistants, life guards or swimming teachers and coaches as well as officials and time keepers to both enable them to support the club, as well as offer additional
opportunities for their
own careers and
And there’s always our core value – a family friendly and fun environment! We demonstrate this through hosting regular GB Challenge cups, a fun opportunity for our young learn to swim students to integrate in a competitive environment with their older peers, where girls compete against boys in a range of fun races.
As a club we recognise the importance of building a cohesive and harmonious team of swimmers to support each other. We therefore take great pride in our extensive social calendar offering events throughout the year such as bowling nights, local and national trips, as well as opportunities for home and foreign training camps such as London or Crete.
Our annual events calendar culminates in our annual Christmas Gala, engaging both swimmers and parents to take part, making new friends and enjoying each others’ successes.
Joining Braunstone Swimming Club therefore is not just about being a successful competitor -
Stuart has been part of the Club’s family since it was founded in 1969 when his Dad was on the original committee. After many years of successful competitive swimming at National level, Stuart finally took the plunge as Chief Coach. Stuart mainly coaches our Senior Squads, however, has an overall responsibility for our Swim21 swimming development programme and can always be seen to cheer on swimmers poolside at any competitions. Both of Stuart’s kids still swim for the Club and keep dad on his toes!
Jo has been with Braunstone Swimming Club since 2003 and has a real passion for teaching swimmers the correct techniques to succeed. Jo ensures this is consistently delivered throughout all of our squads, and teaches learn to swim, as well as all other squads of the club, with her main responsibility being the Junior swimmers. Jo has a great aptitude to make swimmers feel confident and is a great motivator from the side of the pool during any race.
After many years of swimming for BSC I began to take a keen interest in teaching and coaching swimming. This led me to take my ASA level 2 in teaching and coaching swimming so that I could share my knowledge with our swimmers. I am now the co-
